Less backlink building but more Social Media campaigns

We have read Google is de-indexing many backlinks from blogs and link builder sites (which could be seen as spam links or not worth to see in Google's search result page) but on the other hand, we see that Google is adding tools to measure Social Media campaigns in its Analytics page. So, we should think about what to do less and do more in our online marketing strategies.
